With the Okay-pop market as crowded as it’s, there are sure to be loads of teams whose music turns into tough to differentiate from their friends. Secret Quantity fall into this class, with a discography that continuously modifications model. I can’t level to any component that makes them stand proud of the pack, even when they’ve launched a couple of robust songs.
DOXA (독사) is one other strong effort, most notable for its massive, brassy instrumental. Its sturdy manufacturing sparks loads of power — particularly when it bounds into its percussive post-chorus. The second verse is one other spotlight, with the brass taking middle stage alongside the group’s rap.
Sadly, this manufacturing is paired with what I’d name “Okay-pop’s melodic mush.” There’s no actual through-line or point of interest within the songwriting — simply a whole lot of flitting right here and there. Even after a number of listens, I couldn’t repeat any of the melodies from DOXA‘s verses. Their attitude-heavy sound goes in a single ear and out the opposite. The refrain is barely extra memorable, however struggles to match the potential of the tune’s power.
